Today in Human Geo we finished the rest of the video about the population pyramids.
The second half of the video talked about:
The birth rate:
The USA birth rate is lower than it should be, we learned that we get more of our population growth from immigrants.
Birth Rate:
-2014: 8/1000 births
Death Rate:
-2014: 9/1000 deaths
We learned that a population pyramid is not just useful for keeping track of the present and furture populations, but it needs track of the past as well.
For example, the United States population pyramid still has it's effect in the pyramid from the baby boom stage. Mostly people in the 50-60ish ages are very high in number because at that time the increase of the population in the baby booming stage.
Also about the past, China still has effects from there "one child" rule, where the government made it a law that there was too be only one child per family. This rule caused a sex-selective abortions. Sex-selective abortions was when the mother of the one baby she was having aborted the baby if it was a girl because man were more preferred for things like jobs to take care of his family. Woman on the other hand were not offered many jobs to made a business or a good living. So the mothers felt that if they could only have one child, then they should have the baby that was going to end up more successful and support his family. This caused more population in men then woman so it effected their population pyramid.
Finally we learned that it is very important for scientists have some kind of explanation or demonstrating of the populations because all of the poor countries with less food etc.
