Population Pyramid

Today in Human Geo we talked about Population Pyramid.
A Population Pyramid is a tool we use to keep track  of all the different countries population.

In class we watched the video I linked in my previous blog. We didn't finish it, but we talked about things like how these pyramids show how poor a country is or how rich a country is- in supporting their own country, with health care etc.

For example, in this pyramid:

It's the United States most recent population pyramid, the lines are much longer for the baby boomers (age 50-60) because they had a high reductive period.

We also talked about the three stages that countries go through:

  • pre-industrialization: not much economic growth, like poor countries
  • industrialization: periods like the baby boom stage; tons of economic growth
  • post-industrialization: like todays economy
